overview

Instead of a traditional ad campaign for the indie crime thriller “Any Day Now,” we executed an elaborate viral hoax inspired by the real art heist central to the film’s plot. We created a fake gallery opening featuring reproductions of the 13 masterpieces stolen in the infamous Gardner Museum heist. I’ve staged many stunts with collaborators Andrew Soltys and Charlie Todd (of Improv Everywhere fame), and my goal is always to engineer an experience that feels undeniably real. To sell the illusion, I scouted prominent Chelsea galleries and designed the entire layout in 3D using Vectorworks to perfect the flow. I oversaw every atmospheric detail, including the museum-grade signage and lighting. The night culminated in a staged FBI raid where agents dramatically “seized” a Rembrandt in front of a stunned crowd. Although I ran a sophisticated hidden camera setup, the true camera coverage came from the cell phones of the guests themselves. The design was so convincing that it ignited a massive debate on social media, propelling the project to viral success.
