overview
The “kiss cam” is a well established tradition at sporting events but nobody has ever tried to take it on the road before! I tested several LED video trucks before landing on one with a frameless screen design and easily accessible cargo hold, then I designed the setup in 3D in Vectorworks. By mounting robotic PTZ cameras on the roof with custom magnetic mounts I was able to place the camera operators inside the truck. The live video feed required live switching between cameras as well as multiple layers of motion graphics. To further complicate the workflow, the truck screens were all different (non-standard) sizes! I built a complex Qlab project that could tackle these live visual needs along with a video signal chain that allowed for recording and quick delivery of the program and isolated feeds. I even set up a carbon monoxide alarm system in the truck to make sure the camera technicians were safe and sound on the go!
